St. Patrick’s Win Brennan Cup

The annual Brennan Cup tennis match between the two leading teams, in the Wellington Catholic Lawn Tennis Association was played last week. This year the competing teams were Marist and St. Patrick’s, the latter winning an evenly contested match by 15 sets to 9, Thus St. Patrick’s, who were last season s Brennan Cup winners, have, not only won the association s first division championship but also retained this trophy. Competition in the second and third divisions have now concluded and the St. Anthony's club (Brooklyn) won both grades. Results in the Brennan Cup fixture are as follows, St. Patrick’s players being mentioned first: — Men’s Singles. Hatchard beat Read, 6-2; Wickliffe lost to Fitzgerald. 3-6; Hepburn lost to ,T. Warren, 1-6; McGrath beat R. M arren, 6-3; O’Neill beat Fellowee, 6-1; O’Hagan beat Devlin, 6-4. Women’s Singles. Miss Kershaw lost to Miss McDavitt, 2-6; Miss C. O'Hagan lost to Mrs. Fellowes, 1-6; Miss Organ lost to Miss Fleming, 4-6: Miss Howard lost to Miss Weybourne, 5-7; Mis® M. O’Hagan lost to Miss Sparke, 4-6; Miss Setter heat Miss Gould, 7-5. Men’s Doubles. Hatchard and McGrath beat Beck and Fitzgerald, 6-2; Hepburn and Wickliffe beat R. and J. Warren, 6-4; O’Neill and O’Hagan beat Fellowes and Devlin, 6-3. Women’s Doubles. Misses Kershaw and C. O’Hagan lost to Miss McDavitt and Mrs. Fellowes, 5-7; Misses Howard and Setter beat Misses Fleming and Sparke, 8-6; Misises Organ and M. O’Hagan beat Misses Gould and Weybourne, 6-1. Mixed Doubles. Hatchard and Miss Kershaw beat: Beck and Miss McDavitt, 7-5; Wickliffe and Miss Organ lost to Fitzgerald and Mrs. Fellowes, 2-6: O'Neill and Miss C. O’Hagan beat R. Warren and Miss Fleming, 7-5; Hepburn and Miss Howard beat J. ‘Warren and Miss Gould. 6-4; McGrath and Mias M. O'Hagan beat Fellowes and Miss Weybourne. 6-4; O'Hagan and Miss Setter beat Devlin and Alias Sparke, 6-1.
