CLOSING DOWN Large Melbourne Drapery Emporium By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received March 24, 12.15 a.m.) Melbourne, March 23. Craig and Williamsons, Limited, the large drapery emporium which has been trading in Elizabeth Street Melbourne for 63 years, is closing business on Thursday. The business has been in the hands of receivers for some time. The premises were offered at auction last week, but the highest bid of £335,000 was below the reserve and it was passed in. Tenders were called for the purchase of the stock and book debts. They were opened to-day, when it was announced that Anthony Horderns, Sydney, had purchased the stock and Ball and Welches, Melbourne, had bought the book debts.. The advertised value of the stock was £131,022 and of the book debts £56,746. Most of the staff are being absorbed by other Melbourne firms.
