Sir James Parr, who has been on a motoring tour of the North Island, accompanied by friends from England, is now in Wellington and is staying at Sir John Davidson, a director of Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and chairman of directors of the Union Bank of Australia, is expected to arrive at Wellington from Australia to-day and leave on Wednesday for the South Island. He is due at Auckland on March 4 and will sail for Sydney by the Wanganella the following day. He is accompanied by his wife and daughter. Professor W. A. Sewell, professor of English at Auckland University College, left Auckland yesterday en route to Australia. He is due to attend the conference of Australian and New Zealand universities at Adelaide on February 15.

Dr. E. G. Malherbe, Director of the National Bureau of Educational and Social Research, is expected to arrive in New Zealand early in June, to take part in the New Education Fellowship Conference. He is Interested in educational finance and intends shortly to make an intensive study of various systems throughout the world.

Mr. R. P. Browne, one of Sydney's best-known Rugby football authorities, is visiting Wellington. He intends to leave to-morrow in the Awatea. Mr. P. W. Maddock, general manager, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (N.Z.), Ltd., left on Saturday for Auckland.

Mr. C. J. Harris, New Plymouth, arrived in Wellington yesterday. He expects to return on Wednesday night.

Mr. N. S. Falla, chairman of directors and managing director of the Union Steam Ship Co., is visiting Dunedin.

Mr. M. J. Reardon, Conciliation Commissioner, left Wellington on Saturday for Nelson. He expects to return about Friday next. Mr. Porter Lee, director of the New York School of Social Work, is making a tour through New Zealand to study aspects of social welfare work. Later he will tour Australia and South Africa.

Mr. W. F. Graham, managing director of Lever Brothers (N.Z.), Limited, accompanied by Mrs. Graham and their son, has left by the Wangaqella from Auckland on a visit to Sydney and Melbourne.

Professor P. W. Burbidge, Professor of Physics at Auckland University College, left Auckland for Australia by the Wanganella. He will attend the universities conference at Adelaide and expects to return to Auckland early in March.

Mr. W. Machin, chairman of the Economics Committee of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce for the last eight years, is to receive at a luncheon on Thursday a bound volume of the first 100 economic bulletins issued by the chamber as a mark of appreciation from his fellow committeemen.

The Hon. Eliot R. Davis, M.L.C., left Auckland by the Wanganella for Sydney, en route to Japan, America, and England. He was accompanied by Mrs. Davis and will be away for about six months. Mr. Davis is Consul for Japan in Auckland, and while in that country will interest himself in reciprocal trade matters.

The Hon. 11. G. Hawkins, M.L.C., of South Australia, accompanied by Mrs. Hawkins, will arrive at Wellington this morning by the Awatea. Mr. Hawkins is chairman of directors of the South Australian Farmers’ Union, one of the largest concerns of its kind in Australia. He is a director of the Producers and Citizens’ Co-operative Assurance Co., Ltd., and other important companies in South Australia, and is also a member of the British Empire Association. Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins will spend a few weeks touring New Zealand, after which they will proceed to America and Japan.
