Australian Party Arrives To-day

THREE z WEEKS’ TOUR OF DOMINION

A party of Australian primary producers will arrive at Wellington by the Awatea this morning and will spend three weeks touring the Dominion. The party is 24 strong and its members ate drawn from four States. A comprehensive programme has been arranged by the New Zealand Government Department of Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity, which organised the whole tour. Those making the trip will find their three weeks’ stay in this country crammed with interesting visits to the foremost stud stock properties, agricultural institutions, freezing works and other places of interest to all primary producers. Branches of the Farmers’ Union throughout the Dominion have been of great assistance in arranging for the entertainment of the visitors. Members of the party are:—South Australia: Mr. A. G. Bennett, Mr. A. L. E. Spehr, Mr. J. M. Wray, Mr. It P. Haynes. Mr. A. E. Blight, Mr. T. Oboru, Mr. J. W. Bourn, Mr. A. E. Sheidow, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Ness, Mr. A. J. Vigar, Mr. H. It. Marsh, Mr. G. 11. Bundle, Mr. G. It Davidson, Mr. Sedsman. Victoria: Mr. F. T. Clifford, Mr. and Mrs. G. Trewin, Mr. B. Willis, Mr. and Mrs. W. Coutts, Mr. D. G. Coutts. New South Wales: Mr. G. McAllister. West Australia: Mrs. A. M. Francis. Mr. W. Coutts has been appointed leader and Mr. A. Spehr deputy leader. Mrs. Francis will represent the women. The party will be conducted on the tour by Mr. W. F. Swift, of the Tourist Department. This morning members of the party will be shown over the Wellington City Corporation's milk depot, and in the afternoon they will be taken for a sightseeing drive round Wellington. Tomorrow they will depart for Palmerston North, inspecting Massey Agricultural College and stud stock farms on the way. On Wednesday on their way to New Plymouth, halts will be made to visit Mr. A. Phillips’ 100-acre farm on which 1000 sheep are carried, and also Mr. Holt Simpson’s property,

“Plains House,” Turakina, where fat lambs and bullocks will be seen. Farms will be inspected in the Taranaki district before the party leaves on Friday for Hamilton, via Waitomo. Saturday morning will be spent in the Hamilton district, and in the afternoon the party will leave for Rotorua. Maori Welcome at Rotorua. Sunday will be spent at Rotorua where the party is to receive a special Maori welcome, which will be something entirely new to them. After seeing what the thermal regions have to offer, the trip to Napier will be made the following day. The Tuesday will be spent at Napier, where the Farmers’ Union has been busy organising inspections and receptions. From there the visitors will be taken through to Masterton, on Wednesday, February 17, and they will be the guests of the Masterton A. and P. Association at the golden jubilee show immediately on their arrival in the afternoon. Before leaving for Wellington the following morning a visit will be made to the Masterton ram fair. The South Island tour will begin ou Friday, February 19, with a visit to the freezing works at Christchurch. Saturday will be occupied by visits around Christchurch, including Lincoln Agricultural College. On the Sunday, the visitors will leave Christchurch for Timarij. with a stop at Ashburton. After spending Monday morning at Timarti, they will leave for Mt. Cook in the afternoon, spending the following day in the snow regions, and those who care will be given the opportunity of a visit to the Tasman glacier. From Mt. Cook the tourists will go to Oarnaru with a stop at Omarama for lunch. They will be at Ojnaru on Thursday, February 25, and visits will be paid to the Ekler-slie horse stud, Mr. A. 11. Chapman’s Ryeland flock at Kurow, Mr. W. McKenzie’s Corriedale stud, and the New Zealand and Australian Land Company’s Corriedale stud at Hakataramea, The journey from Oamaru to Dunedin will be made on Friday, February 2G, and the next day the tourists will proceed to Invercargill, and will be given an opportunity of viewing root crops in the Stirling district on the way south. On the Sunday they will be entertained at Invercargill and they will leave on the Monday afternoon for Bluff in time to connect with the Marama sailing for Melbourne.
