Petone Win Both Union

Shields

KARORI RUNNERS-UP Petone won both senior and junior Union Shields from Karori, in the rifle matches fired at Trentham on Saturday afternoon.

Petone and Karori tied/with 768 points each in the senior competition, but Petone won on the count back, with Old Nayals five points less, third, and Suburbs 757, fourth.

In the junior competition, Petone had a dear margin over the other four teams, which were well bunched. Petqne's score was 733, and Karori was again second with 707. Old Navals scored 706, Petone B 704, and University 700. University was in bottom position last year also, but their score this year shows greater improvement than any of the other teams competing. Conditions were fairly good, the wind varying from three left to three right. Each team comprised eight riflemen, each of whom fired a seven-shot practice at ranges of 300, 500 and 600 yards. Seven centuries were registered during the match, three of them being by marksmen of the Petone senior team. W. H. Ballinger (Petone)' and Petersen (Petone), each scored 102. Stewart (Petone), and R. Congreve (Old Navals), scored 101, and H. V. Croxton and J. I. King (Karori), and F. Monk (Old Navals), 100. Detailed scores at the various ranges are ns follows: — Senior
