MARAMA HITS WHARF
Cranes Temporarily Out of Action When berthing at the Glasgow Wharf on her arrival from Lyttelton about 8.30 o’clock yesterday morning the Union Company’s Marama slightly overshot her mark and hit the breastwork between the Glasgow and Railway Wharves, cutting about four or five feet into the decking. She did not touch any of the wharf piles and did no damage to herself except slightly scratching the paint on her bows. The Marama had scarcely any way on when she hit the breastwork, and it was not known yesterday what was responsible for the mishap. It is not thought that the damage to the wharf i s serious, though it caused a hold-up of about an hour in the working of all overseas vessels at the Glasgow, King’s and Pipitea Wharves through the main pipes carrying the hydraulic power to the cranes on those wharves being broken. These pipes run along the underside of the breastworks near the seaward edge, and being easily accessible were repaired by 10 o’clock, when the cranes were able to start work again. The Marama is to leave Wellington, as scheduled, at 1.15 p.m. to-day, for Hobart and Melbourne, via Bluff.
