Minister to Tour South Island MANY’ DEPUTATIONS A comprehensive tour of the South Island will be made by the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. R. Semple, who left 11’611108100 last evening for Nelson. The Minister will spend the weekend in North Canterbury, reaching Christchurch to-night. On Tuesday morning he will leave Christchurch for Timaru by way of Geraldine and Temuka, where he will receive deputations introduced by the member for the electorate, Mr. T. D. Burnett (Opposition). In the afternoon the Minister will visit tlie Timaru aerodrome and also will inspect the proposed Seadowu drainage scheme. Deputations will be received in the evening. Mr. Semple will leave Timaru on Wednesdaj’ morning for Oamaru. After receiving deputations there he will go on to Palmerston, where representations as to local needs will be submitted, and thence to Dunedin. tn the evening at least four deputations will be received. The following morning the Minister will leave for Balclutha, where again district deputations will be heard. A visit will be made to the mining township, Kaitangata. The night will be spent at Gore. On Fridaj’ the Minister will receive deputations before leaving for Inver eargill, where several deputations will wait on him, these representing three different electorates in that part of Southland. Saturday and Sunday will be spent at Stewart Island. On Monday, Februarj’ 15, Mr. Seinple will return to Invercargill. On Tuesday he will tour Wallace, the electorate of the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. A. Hamilton. The following day the Minister will leave Invereargill for the Homer tunnel, spending the night at Te Anau. On Thursday morning he will proceed to Queenstown, where deputations will be introduced by the Opposition member for Central Otago, Mr. W. A. Bodkin. On Friday Mr. Semple will visit Glenorcli.v and Paradise, returning in the evening to Queenstown. An early start will be made on Saturday morning for Pembroke and the Haast Pass road works. The week-end will be spent at Lake Wanaka. On Monday, Februarj’ 22, the Minister will go on to Cromwell via Luggate. Deputations will be received at Cromwell, Alexandra, Lander and Ranfurly. On Tuesday lie will inspect the Manlototo Irrigation scheme before proceeding to Kurow and Waimate. After a night at Waimate the Minister will go on to Christchurch, returning to Wellington on Februarj’ 25.
