WARNING TO SHIPS

Mine-sweeping Float Adrift By Telegraph—Press Association. Invercargill, February 5. A large mine-sweeping float, which has been lost from the training ship H.M.S. Wakakura near Waipapa Point, close to Fortrose, is regarded as a menace to navigation and a warning to masters of ships has been issued by the Marine Department. The Wakakura has been in Southland waters for some time and a few days ago visited Stewart Island. The official warning, which was issued to-day, states: “The training ship Wakakura advises that a large mine-sweeping float with small red flag has been lost in a position 137 degrees from Waipapa Point light (10 miles). An otter hoard and at least seven fathoms of wire are attached under the float. These are a danger to navigation. Ships are asked to recover these if sighted.”
