"VERY MEAN THEFT”

Youth Who Stole From

Employer ADMITTED TO PROBATION "This is a very mean theft indeed,” said Mr. Raymond Ferner, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, yesterday, when admitting John Livingstone, farm hand, aged 23, to two years’ probation on a charge of the theft of £lO, the property of Cyril Wood. Conditions of the probation order are that accused is to take out a prohibition order against himself, and to make restitution of the stolen money. Sub-Inspector J. Dempsey said accused, who had not been before the court before, was employed by Mr. Wood on his farm. On December 5 Mr. Wood visited town, and while Mrs. Wood was at the rear of their house accused stole £lO from their bedroom. He then went into town and played billiards and placed some bets on the trots. His employer was prepared to take him back on the condition that he took out a prohibition order against himself.
