Mr. J. C. Lopdell, a son of the Rev. J. E. Lopdell, of Lower Hutt, who is a volunteer for the mission service of the Presbyterian Church, was congratulated by the Wellington presbytery last evening on ' the passing of bis tinai professional examination in medicine. Mr. Lopdell is at present house surgeon at Napier hospital. Mr. H. W. Faulkner, chief surveyor in the Wellington city engineer’s department, was the subject of a presentation yesterday on the eve of his marriage. On behalf of the staff the city engineer (Mr, K. E. Luke) presented Mr. Faulkner with a clock, accompanying it with all the 'best wishes for the future happiness of Mr. and Mrs. Faulkner. ' Professor 11. G. Denham, chairman o the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, and professor of chemistry at Canterbury University College, returned by the Makura, which arrived at Wellington yesterday from San Francisco. He attended the imperial Science Conference in London, and visited university and research institutions in Great Britain and America.
