CONFERENCE OPENS

League of Mothers The annual conference of the League of Atothers was held at Wellington yesterday, and was opened by her Excellency Lady Galway. Mrs. Charles AVhite, Dominion president, and Alr.s. Leslie Wall, Dominion secretary, met Lady Galway and presented. her with a sheaf of roses. Declaring the conference open, Lady Galway said she considered a conference of great value, as an opportunity to talk over things other than the actual business of the organisation and to discuss things that would help toward its growth. ’ Commenting on the increase in membership, she said the League was more wanted to-day than ever before, because of the need of a religious background in the education of children, which only a mother could give. Physical welfare and amusement were well catered for, and. the league’s object was greater than everything else.” The development and organisation of the league and its future policy were discussed during the conference. It was decided to hold 'the conference every two years in future, and the next conference will be in Auckland. Officers were elected as follows:— Dominion president, Airs Charles AVhite; Dominion secretary, Mrs. Leslie Wall; assistant-secretary, Airs. Stanley Harris; Dominion executive, Lady Elliott, Dr. Elizabeth Bryson, Aliss Richmond, Aliss Lorimer. The conference will be continued today at the residence of Airs. Charles AVhite.
