HARMONIC SOCIETY

To-night, in the concert chamber of the Town Hall, the Wellington Harmonic Society, under the conduetorship of Mr. H. Temple White, will hold a special concert for which the programme has been chosen by popular vote of the society’s regular patrons in honour of the “coming-of-age” of the choir. For 21 years this body of singers has been filling a useful place in the musical life of the city, giving at least three concerts each year, and often more, and including on practically every . programme some new items. In keeping with this policy, “Great is Jehovah” (Schubert) and “Swansea Town” will be given for the first time, but the balance of the choir’s items will be old favourites repeated by request, and will include the “Seraphic Song” (Rubenstein, arranged Gaines) in which the choir will be assisted by Ida Coventry (contralto), Reg. Svttonn (violinist), and Esther Caigou (pianist). “Eventide,” music by H. Temple White, to words by Harens Plimmer, will also be included, the soloist being Myra Sawyer. The other assisting artists will be Miss Zell O’Kane, mezzo-soprano, whi will appear in national ceremonial mostume in a group of folk songs of Czechoslovakia, and will also sing “Romance” from “.Mignon” (Amibroise Thomas) ; Miss Dorothy La Roche, a brilliant young pianist, winner of the Robert Parker .prize at the recent Wellington competitions, who will play “Impromptu in F -Sharp Major” (Chopin) and “Etude de Concert” (MacDowell) ; and “The Harmonic Quartette” in numbers from its repertoire. The plan is at Begg’s, and there will be 100 seats at 1/-, for which tickets are on sale at the doors.
