Madame Schumann Heink (Received November 18, 11.30 p.m.) Hollywood, November 18 The death has occurred of Madame Schumann Heink. aged 75. Madame Schumann Heink was a prima donna of other days. She was born in Prague, Austria, in 1861. At the age of 17 she was principal contralto in the Dresden Court Opera, and made her first, appearance on the stage as Azucenn in “11 Trovatore” in 1878. She appeared in- Ernestine Heink in Hamburg in 1883 and later sang in a star engagement at Kroll’s Theatre, Berlin. She gained a national reputation at Rayreuth and eventually became' a member of the Metropolitan Opera Company, New York, for several seasons. She starred in "Love's Lottery” in 1905-06 Al the age of 64 she reappeared with the Metropolitan Opera Company in 1926 in "Das Rheingold.” Madame Schumann Heink was widely known as a concert singer.
