AUCKLAND LOCAL AUTHORITIES

Metropolitan Committee Dominion Special Service. Auckland, November 17. •‘We hare met to consider the formation of a permanent metropolitan c6mmittee to which may be referred for examination and advice any questions of a metropolitan character which may arise and thus provide a foundation for a fuller measure of co-operation between constituent local authorities,” said the mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis, when opening the first meeting of delegates to-night The bodies represented, in addition to the Auckland City Council, were the boroughs of Mount Eden, Mount Albert, One Tree Hill, Newmarket, Onehunga, New Lynn and Otahuhu, the road districts of Mount Roskill and Mount Wellington, the town districts of Ellerslie, Glen Eden and Henderson, and the Panmure Township Road Board. In tracing the steps which had led to the conference, Mr. Davis said he knew of the desire of suburban mayors to promote better relationships between the City Council and contiguous local authorities. It had been agreed at an informal conference that the district to be covered by the committee’s activities should be that contemplated by the proposed Auckland metropolitan drainage area and that the committee should comprise the mayors and chairmen or their deputies of local authorities within tfeat area. The meeting resolved to form itself into a committee to be known as the metropolitan committee.
