“PIRATICAL ACTION”
Diversion of Russian Oil Tanker PETROL FOR GERMANY? Moscow, November 15. The Tass news agency 'declares, in reference to a statement that 'the Spanish cruiser Almirante Cervera stopped a Russian ship, that the ship, Soyuz Vodnikov, an oil-tanker from Batum with 10.000 tons of petrol, was destined for Germany. The tanker, before passing through the Strait of Gibraltar, was instructed to land the oil at Ertvelde, in Belgium, where there is a storehouse, from which the oil was to be taken to Germany on barges up the Rhine. The owners were surprised to receive a telegram from the captain when the vessel reached Ceuta. The Tass agency comments that this is not the first time that the Spanish Fascists have indulged in an insolent and piratical action and that the circumstances in which the Soyuz Vodnikov arrived at Ceuta are being investigated.
The Gibraltar correspondent of "The Tinies” reported on Saturday that the insurgent cruiser Almirante Cervera stopped a Russian ship laden with ammunition in the Strait of Gibraltar and ordered her to Ceuta.
