CARNAGE IN STREETS “Loyalists Now Have Means For Successful War” By Telegraph—Press Assn.—CopyrightLondon, November 15. The rebels made three air raids over Madrid on Sunday, killing 17 persons and wounding 120. The scene of the greatest carnage was in the Gloria de Atocha Square, where eight roads meet outside the Mediocia railway station, which is the terminal of the railways to the southern coast, and therefore strategically important from the viewpoint of the capital’s food supplies. Bombers again attacked in the afternoon, devastating the Glorieta de Cuatro Caminos Square. Here men, women and children, who were enjoying the sunshine, were plunged into panic by the bomb explosions. teen loyalist fighting aeroplanes, which arrived too late to intercept the raiders, drove them off. Militia frustrated two attempts by Moors with tanks to enter the northwest quarter of Madrid. The insurgents checked a loyalist attempt to improve their positions immediately to the west of the Segovia. Toledo,- and Princesa Bridges. Two hundred Government troops who attacked insurgent outposts after climbing the high wall of the park were practically wiped out. The insurgents also suffered losses. The bodies of three Englishmen were found among the dead at Casa del Campo after a fierce night fight. One bore a passport with the name S. R. Yates. The others had no papers. The Prime Minister, Senor Largo Caballero, interviewed at Valencia upon his return from Madrid, declared : “The war is far from ended, even in the apocrypha] event of Madrid falling. Only now have the loyalists acquired the means for the successful prosecution of hostilities, which, irrespective of any intervention, Italian or otherwise, will be continued until victory is achieved not only throughout Spain but in the Balearic Islands and in Morocco.” SITUATION IN SPAIN
