The National Party
Sir,—A further trenchant criticism by "New Zealander” in "The Dominion” on Saturday under the heading "Work, Thrift, and Perambulators” proves that there are still true-hearted New Zealanders in our midst even though some serve their country iu obscurity. "New Zealander” voices the anxiety of thousands of electors when he asks if the National Party under new leadership is being vigorously reorganised? Infusion of new blood is required to make the National Party a truly people's party. Before.a public meeting is called, say in the capital city,' to enable Mr. Adam Hamilton to state his policy, are we to wait until Socialism in all its phases has driven us to fatal economic consequences? The city council by-election and the somewhat belated warning from the local chamber of commerce is evidence that the urgent call of the moment is for leadership and action. Failing this all that will be left of our fair heritage will be an unfortunate little country strewed with costly monuments .of .socialistic experiments that in turn will mean increased unemployment and distress. There are many thousands of electors who are long since tired of the present disunity and drift, but nevertheless are wiser for their trials and salutory lesson. The National Party must be reconstructed. It must be made a vigorous organisation with a definite policy to attract the thousands of bewildered electors already showing acute symptoms of despair. The onus is on Mr. Adam Hamilton. Will he rise to the wonderful opportunity that awaits him? I am consoled in the belief that Mr. Hamilton will do so and thus give fresh hope to a perplexed community.—l atn, etc., NEW ZEALAND FOR NEW ZEALANDERS.
