British Public Order Bill
HEAVY PENALTIES
London, November 10.
Penalties of a £lOO fine or six months’ imprisonment, or both, up to a £5OO fine of two years’ imprisonment, or both, are provided by the Public Order Bill for anyone found guilty of wearing in a public place or at a meeting uniforms signifying association with any political organisation, or with the promotion of any political object: also, for anyone found guilty of controlling an association organised to usurp the authority of the Crown or to promote any political object by a display of force. Other clauses, empower the police and city councils to ban processions and to investigate associations.- It is left to the courts to define the meaning of the word "uniforms.”
The Bill applies to Scoltand but not to the North of Ireland. It is hoped that it will be law before Christmas.
