London, November 10.
Mr. Walter Nash, the New Zealand Minister of Finance, interviewed by the Australian Associated Press agency in London, emphasised that he was chiefly concerned with extending the market for New Zealand products, especially butter. Britain’s consumption of which could be increased by 50 per cent, without reaching the "human needs” standard approved by nutrition experts. He hoped that butter could be marketed in England above 112/- a cwt., but if that was impossible the Government would take care of the New Zealand farmers.
A first charge on the credits obtained from tiie sale of New Zealand products would be the overseas debt services. Mr. Nash indicated that lie would see the City interests, but would not demand conversion.
He would probably consult Government and shipping representatives if the question of a subsidy arose after the publication of the McKlnder Report. New Zealand was prepared to agree to a subsidy for Pacific shipping if terms could be arranged suitable to all parties. He believed there was room for English and American shipping in the Pacific side by side.
