HOMING PIGEONS
Wellington Society’s Race
From Henderson
The Wellington Homing Pigeon Society flew a flock race from Henderson. 314 miles airline, recently. One hundred and twentv-seven pigeons, representing 22 lofts, were liberated by the stationmaster, who advised fine weather conditions. A. splendid performance was r<‘corded by the birds, resulting iu a good finish. A special trophy donated by Mr. H Clark, Hataitai, for nominated bird was won by Messrs. Murphy and Slierwood, whoso bird also gained, third posttion in the race. The following are the first six placings; —Smit.li and Loxall s Speed King, 1391 yards per ininute; Thomas aud Bruce s Regal Lad, loolaiu . Murphy and Sherwood's De Soto. 13^3.8; F. Flipp and Sou's Otaki, 10v>3.31.; J. Orr’s Erin's Queen, 1352.3; N. Boyd and Son’s Miramar Queen, 1352.09. A silver cup donated by Dr. billies to the New Zealand Federation clubs for best average velocity up to 500 three races was competed for by the Wellington society in this race, this being the first race flown over 300 miles. Next race points will bo Whangnrci, and Parengu, to complete the Wellington society’s three races for the cup.
