DESPERATE CONVICTS

Escape After Strangling Warder THREE RECAPTURED (Received September 13, 7.30 p.m..) Annecy,, September) 12. Five convicts strangled a warder and escaped from prison into Switzerland, where three were arrested without resistance at Feterne. The ringleader unscrewed the lock in his cell door, knocked out the warder, took the keys, and released three fellow convicts who, like himself, were serving life sentences for the attempted murder of a woman tobacconist. The warder recovered and tried to raise an alarm, but the convicts choked him with a leather strap, went to a common cell, released one of 10 prisoners,, scaled the walls, and escaped by motor-car and motor-cycle across the Swiss frontier. The police stopped and arrested three and are still searching for the missing pair
