SURPRISE-PARTY

A surprise-party was arranged by Miss Kathleen Kempthorne and Miss Noel Glendinning on Saturday night in honour of the birthday of Pamela, daughter of Mrs. G. Chapman, Lower Hutt. The house was beautifully decorated wjth rhododendrons and spring flowers, and the large drawing-room, which was cleared for dancing, presented a warm and cheerful sight. During the evening an exciting treasure-hunt was conducted through the Hutt Valley, each carload of guests having to return with various treasures. Dancing and gamCs filled in the rest of the evening. Miss Pamela Chapman wore a blue flowfered linen frock with linen tailored jacket to match and. Miss Kempthorne was wearing a black cocktail frock with a green coatee. Miss Glendinning wore a frock of pale sea-green taffeta with puce flowers and gjrdle. Among the guests present were: Misses Beth and Joan Gibbons, Nancy Meinhold, Keitha Weir, Lorna Adams. Fee Evers-Swindell, Kathleen Murray, Betty Harland, Anne Gow, Gwynneth Abercrombie, Kathleen Kempthorne, Noel Glendinning, Messrs. Ken King, Tom Bush, Bill Young, Don BritonSmith, Pat Morpeth, Maurice Soloman, Jim Norman, Leslie Waller, John Kennedy, Gary Evers-Swindell, Tim Merrick, Roger Roberts.

The Misses Joyce and Naomi Goldsmith, Brooklyn, who have been on a short visit to Dunedin,'have returned to Wellington.
