HARRIER OUTINGS
Scottish Club’s Run in a Snowstorm The 30 members of the Scottish harriers who turned out on Saturday had the experience of running in a snowstorm. A course was set from the Kelburn cable car, along Upland Road, across the viaduct and through Karori tunnel. The paper then led up the zig-zag at the foot of Birdwood Street, and it was at this point that snow in sizeable quantities was encountered. On reaching the top, Messines Hoad was followed for a distance, then the runners broke across country into the valley, and up the snow-clad ridge the other side. Near the top conditions became somewhat precarious, the thawing snow offering little loothold for the runners. However, although there were a few minor spills, no one was hurt. All this time the snow was coining down fast, and the runners were glad to make the descent to the head of Beauchamp, Street, thence along Main Road back to Kelburn. Three packs were dispatched, but the hill portion broke them up, and consequently no run-in was held. The runners afterward adjourned to the kiosk, and were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. Darling at afternoon tea, which was very welcome after the cold run. The opportunity was taken of making a presentation to G. Zander, who was recently married. He is one of the oldest members of the club, having joined about 1920, and has held the position of club captain, as well as being the club champion in 1924. . . Next Saturday the Hislop Memorial Rosebowl will be competed for at Lyah Bay. over a course of 10,000 metres. Methodist Club Conditions were atrocious for the Methodist Harrier Club's championship at Miramar on Saturday. The course led from the tennis courts, proceeding up into the scrub, and up the valley, returning along the opposite side, and , back through the cowyard to the tramline at Rotheram Terrace, and thence round again, a little over five miles. The li runners found the course very . sodden and slippery, making running impossible in places, and numerous falls were registered. D. Walker won both the championship arid sealed handicap events, with R. Ingram second, mid F. Kerslake third F. Thorley was unable to continue after the first lap. E. Patterson and L. Ingram deviated from the trail, spoiling their chances'. Fastest times were: D. Walker, 33.32 ;_R. Ingram, 34.24; and F. Kerslake, 35.18.
