WORLD FACES WHEAT SHORTAGE
Countries’ Lower Yields (Received July 2G, 7 30 p.m.) New York, July 25. ..The Chicago correspondent of the “New York Times" says that according to calculations by leading grain experts the world is facing a wheat shortage with leading producing countries suffering from sub-normal yields. It is estimated that production will be at least 500,000,000 bushels under the normal consumption, indicating complete absorption this year of the world carry-over. The experts’ figures show an indicated world production of 4,639,000,000 bushels, which, with a 615,000,000 bushels carry-over, will provide available stocks of 5,274,000,000 bushels, compared with last year’s consumption of 5,289.000,000 bushels. According to present crop conditions American production will fall short by at least 12,000,000 bushels of normal consumption, indicating that more or less extensive importations will be necessary.
