FALSE PRETENCE CHARGE
Allegation Against Mechanic / Patrick William Sheehy, a single mechanic, aged 22, was remanded until July 31 by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., at the Wellington Magistrate’s Cpurt on Saturday on a charge that at Welington on May 15, 1936, with intent to defraud, he obtained £3/3/6 from T. and W. Young, Ltd., shipping agents, by false' pretence in representing that his name was S. Wicks, and that he was unfit for work as the result of an injury sustained while working on the Taupata in the employ of T. and W. Young, Ltd., on May 8. Bail was allowed at £25, with one surety of £25. Dctectice-Sergeant L. Revell said Sheehy would probably appear along with a man named Poll, similarly charged the previous day. ! Mr. R. Hardie Boys, for Sheehy, said he also appeared for Poll, whose interests conflicted with Sheehy’s. Poll’s people at Christchurch did not desire that he represent Sheehy. Arthur Clarence Hardy, alias O’Connor, alias Sbaw, alias Arthur Harding, was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months on a charge of being found without, lawful excuse in Thorndbn railway yards. Defendant was a labourer, aged 41.
