Wellington Hides Cheaper
Sheepskins were dearer, but hides had an easing tendency, at the sale held yesterday by the Wellington brokers. Sheepskins; A fair offering was ,übmitted, competition being exceptionally keen for good pelted descriptions. As compared with previous rates, fine wools showed an appreciation of id. to itt.. other grades id. Halfbreds sold up to ll}d„ fine crossbreds to 10}d. Salted skins showed a corresponding rise. _ Hides: Some nice parcels of abattoir and butchers’ hides came forward, Ine demand was fairly good, but values generally were lower by }d. to }d. We quote: Heavies l-8d to }d., lights and mediums l-Bd., kip }d. to id., all lower. Yearlings and calf sold well at about the level of late quotations. Tallow: All grades were cleared at about last sale’s rates. The range of prices is as follows: — Dry sheepskins: Halfbreds, B}d. to ll}d.; fine crossbred, B}d. to 10}d.; medium crossbred, 7id. to 9Jd.; coarse crossbred, 7}d. to 9}d.; half-wools, 7d. to 9}d.; quarter-wools, s|d. to 9d.; pelts, 4Jd. to 7}d. Bradford Tops Market Firm London, July 23. The Bradford tops market is firm. There is small business, as users of tops have covered their requirements for two or three months ahead. Yarns are fullv firm at late rates. Latest quotations compare with those previously cabled as follows: —
Wellington Poultry Market Prices of live poultry on the Wellington market this week are quoted by Townsend and Paul, Ltd., as follows:— Fowls. —White Leghorns: Hens, 2/- to 3/- each ; cockerels, 2/9 to 3/9; pullets, 2/6 to 4/6. Black Orpingtons: Hens, heavy 4/- to 6/- each, medium 2/6 to 3/6: cockerels, heavy 4/- to 5/6, medium 2/C to Ducks. —Indian Runner: Young, 3/- to 4/- each ; old, 2/6 to 4/-. White: Heavy, 4/- to 6/-.
