WHEAT SURPLUSES

Purchase by International Body Suggested RAISING CONSUMPTION (British Official Wireless.) (Received July 23, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, July 22. There was a meeting of the International Wheat Committee in London today. The Chilian Ambassador suggested an inquiry into the possibility of encouraging through international action the consumption of wheat instead of cereals with an inferior nutritive value.

lie suggested that the international organisation might obtain at a low price part of the surpluses likely to accumulate in several countries in the next few years, and referred to the possibility of financing such wheat reserve through an international institution such as the Bank of International Settlements.

Representatives of Great Britain, France and Argentina welcomed these suggestions.
