Direct Shipping Service Plan Abandoned (Received July 23. 10 p.m.) Melbourne, July 23. It is officially announced that owing to the serious effect of tlie tariff restrictions on trade between /Australia and Japan the Osaka Shosen Kaisha Line lias decided to abandon for the time being its plans to run a direct service between Japan and New Zealand. O.S.K. freighters, however, will continue to call at Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, then crossing to New Zealand ports and returning to Sydney.
