PRICE OF WOOL
Endeavour to Remove a
Misconception
Reference was made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Sheepowners and Farmers’ Federation' yesterday to a misconception which might easily arise from reports of the year’s wool sales. It was emphasised that more than 30 per cent, of the wool sold had been carry-over from the previous season and that the gross return had only been affected by the increased price by approximately 2jd. a lb. It was felt that unless the position was clarified, a wrong conception of it might be given to the public. The carry-over represented at least 5 per cent, on the capital value of the wool for one year.
It was stated that for the seven years prior to 1931, the average price of wool had been 14Jd. a lb., but since 1931 it had been only 7id. a lb„ even including last year’s average of 9d. a lb.
