AFTERNOON PARTY

In direct contrast to the bitter winter weather out of doors, Mrs. Forbes’s home at Melling, was charmingly warm and sunshiny with spring flowers yesterday when she entertained a number of friends at a delightful afternoon tea party. Large vases of fragrant mimosa from her own garden, with narcissi and bowls of dephne decorated the rooms, and cosy fires made it very easy to forget the rain which slashed the windows.

Mrs. Forbes received her guests wearing a, gown of lido blue georgette and lace with cross-over draped cape edged with fur. Afternoon tea was served in an atmosphere of restful quiet and glowing warmth. On tho dining table was a large, flat bowl containing masses of flame iceland poppies, in the centre of which stood a dainty marble figure. Orange candles repeated tho colour of the popples, and the soft glow from these provided the only light, for the blinds were drawn, and a blazing fire completed the setting. Among those present were: —Lady Elliott, Mrs. G. P. H. Davidson, Mrs. Godfrey Wilson, Mrs. W. E. Herbert, Mrs. H. F. O’Leary, Mrs. Nagle, Mrs. Thornton, Sirs. Knos Gilmer, Madame Merlin, Signora Dessaules, Madame Feng Wang, Mrs. G. Seers, Mrs. W. Olphert, Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Buhrer, Mrs. B. B. Wood, Mrs. Entrican, Mrs. Wyatt, Mrs. Brown, Misses Penny, Probst (America), Oswald and Kettle.
