MRS. P. T. JOSEPH

Early Settler’s Death At the residence of her daughter, Mrs. D. Joseph, late of Taieri Mouth, Otago, af the age of 80 years. Mrs. Joseph arrived in New Zealand with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Flaws, in the Soukar, in 1874, from the Shetland Islands, and had been resident in the Dominion for 62 years,.

Mrs. Joseph is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. J. Eddie and Mrs. D. McKenzie, Lower Hutt, and one son, Mr. T. Thorley, Ngaio. There are also four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. She had one sister and five brothers living. The sister is Mrs. B. J. L. Lynneberg, Ngaio, and the brothers Messrs. Thomas Flaws, Masterton, and James. Robert, George and John Flaws, Kaiwarra.

Since her arrival in New Zealand, and right up to the time of her death, Mrs. Joseph had been a member of the Methodist Church, and took her full share of its social activities. She was a foundation member in Wellington of the women’s auxiliary of Home and Foreign Missions, was a member of the ladies’ guild in the Thorndon Church for a long period of years, and during the last nine years in the Lower Hutt Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the Mothers’ League, and of the recently-formed Y.M.C.A. in the Hutt Valley.
