ANTI-PROFITEERING

Labour Caucus Discusses Legislation MORTGAGE ADJUSTMENT Legislation to be introduced in Parliament in the near future was further considered at a caucus of the Government party, which was resumed yesterday. Subsequently the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, said that discussion on the Prevention of Profiteering Bill, to be introduced by the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon. D. G. Sullivan, had been completed, and that consideration had been given to the Mortgage Readjustment Bill, which would be in the hands of the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash. “We want to have the Mortgage Bill before the House as soon as possible,” Mr. Savage said. “Indeed, it might l>e desirable to delay the announcement of the guaranteed price for dairy products until the Government’s mortgage proposals are made known. The readjustment of mortgages will be carried out on the basis of the guaranteed price, and the provisions of the Bill will have at least some effect in checking speculation in land.”
