Restoration of Cuts in Wages
URGENCY FOR MEASURE The Finance Bill, the main provision of which is the restoration of wage and salary cuts imposed by general order in 1931, will be introduced in the House of Representatives to-day, according to an announcement, made last evening by the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage. The second-reading debate on the Bill will be opened to-mor-row. When the House resumes today attention will be given to the adjourned second-reading debate on the Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill, which was introduced before the House rose for the mid-winter recess. The Prime Minister repeated that it was the desire of the Government to have the Finance Bill passed as soon as possible. Urgency would probably be taken for the measure, he said, although the Government did not propose to rush the matter through without allowing reasonable scope for discussion.
