GAY GLOVES FOR ROYAL RECEPTIONS
The lawns of Buckingham Palace will blossom with brilliant splashes of colour at the King’s Afternoon Receptions (writes a London correspondent). In place of the bouquets that debutantes carry at Court in normal years, their hands are to be gloved in vivid shades—emerald green, royal purple and bright blue among them. Hats and waistbelts will match. Gowns and wraps will be In quiet shades. Forget-me-not blue to go with the purple accessories and white to accompany greer gloves are among palace colour schemes seen in a Grosvenor Street collection. “Gale” fashions that will invade the Royal lawns include large hats with the brims apparently blown upward like an umbrella blown inside out, and inflated sleeves that look as if the wind had caught them. These sleeves are pointed from the shoulders, like diminutive wings. Embossed wallpapers are suggested by the fabrics chosen by many debutantes. They are heavy crepes with a raised design woven in gleaming thread. .Satins and laces are also being chosen. Frocks will just touch the lawns. Hats will be large and severely tailored. Some of the brims have the sectional effect of bats’ wings. Debutantes will not find their curtsies so easy to make as in Court gowns. Skirts are close fitting all the way down.
The Brooklyn Free Kindergarten Mothers’ Club held a most successful children’s party on Saturday last, there being more than 100 parents and children present, Uncle Campbell, of 2YA, conducted the party and both children and parents had a very pleasant time. Each child received a balloon at the close of the party. A delightful afternoon tea was donated and was served by the committee, who were very pleased with the financial results of the afternoon.
