AUCKLAND’S CRIME

No Indication of Decrease By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, July 21. There were seven cases for the consideration of the grand jury at the opening of the criminal session of the Supreme Court to-day. His Honour Mr. Justice Callan said that the smallness 'of the calendar could not be taken as an indication of a decrease in crime without also paying regard to the number of people who had pleaded guilty to offences since the last session. This number had increased in the Auckland district.

Charles Frederick Stewart, 22 years of age, who pleaded guilty to attempting by night to break and enter a shop, was admitted to two years’ probation.
