Investigations Into Teeth Of Maoris
NOTABLE AMERICAN Dominion Special Service. Auckland, June 22. Recognised in his profession as the foremost research worker on dental decay, or caries, Dr. Western Price, of Cleveland, Ohio, will shortly spend some weeks in the investigation ' of dental characteristics of the Maoris, w-ho are famous for the perfection of their teeth where untouched by the influence of civilisation. Dr. Price passed through New Zealand about a fortnight ago on his way to .Australia, there to do research work in his special subject among the aboriginal, natives.
The New Zealand Government has arranged to place at Dr. Price’s disposal when he returns the services of Dr. J. L. Saunders, director of dental hygiene, to assist him in inquiring into dental conditions among the Maori people, both in their most highly civilised condition and in parts where they have been least touched by the influence of the coming of the European. IVhen passing through Auckland recently Dr. Price took the opportunity of examining a number of Maori skulls at the museum and he also visited Queen Victoria School for Maori girls to observe the dental conditions among the ptipils there. It is expected that Dr. Price will return to New Zealand in about a month’s time and leave for tire United States about the middle of August.
