ATHENIANS’ DANCE

High hats suspended from the ceiling. which was festooned with fancy streamers and large bunches of balloons decorated the walls of the Pharmacy Hall on Wednesday night when the Athenian Club held a most cheery “Mad Hatters” dance. The host and hostess were Mr. and Mrs. 11. D. Dodson, the latter wearing a Capri blue deque frock, cut with a cowled neckline back and front, and a train.

The hats worn by lite parlicipaius tn tlte "grand parade” were most original, and the judge (Miss McClellan > had great difficulty in choosing the prize winners, but eventually decided on the following: Mrs. West ("quintuplets"), Miss Nonnested ("vegetable garden"), Mr. Friend ("traffic control signals"), Mr. Slrange-Mure ("damaged Wahine”). Miss McClellan wore a black sequinned frock cut on fitting lines, with a red shoulder spray. Songs rendered by Mr. David McGill (Christchurch) were greatly appreciated. Prizes for novelty dances were presented to Miss Petheriek, Miss Bayley and Mr. E. Harris.
