HAWERA GALLOPS

Runners at Wanganui Meeting

SOLOIST OVER BIG FENCES

Dominion Special Service.

llawera, June 16.

llawera candidates for Wanganui were given their semi-final trials this morning.' Galloping was done on the outside of the course proper, the going being heavy after rain overnight. Soloist, Supreme Court and .Silvanus pleased must. Le Grand shaded One Whetu over seven furlongs in 1.36 3-5. Le Grand had a decided advantage in weight, but nevertheless went well. One Whetu has freshened up nicely after his northern trip. . , Corowa went lazily over five furlongs in 1.12.

Supreme Court pleased by eeveriug seven furlongs alone in 1.351. coming home very strongly. Silvanus was two lengths clear .of Dancing Lady with Golden Rill a similar distance back at the close of six furlongs in 1.221. Silvanus drew away from her companions in the straight. Debut and Soloist jumped two brush fences together, which Soloist later cleared alone. Debut went on to tackle the post and rails and hencoop, but baulked at each, although he negotiated both satisfactorily at his second attempts. He completed the round by jumping the brush fences again. Debut jumped the brushes really well, aud would probably have made no mistakes at the solid fences had be been in company. For a novice Soloist gave a really dashing display, taking the fences in his stride. He will have his first start over country in Hie Wanganui Steeples on Saturday. A( Wanganui A. E. Ellis will ride One Whetu, Le Grand and Supreme Court; R. Webby, Soloist; W. Grindlay, Debut; G. Dunean, Advance Plane. Provided his horses shape satisfactorily in the meanwhile, J. Fryer will leave with a team for Australia following the Wellington meeting uext mouth. Cynical Kid and Soloist are booked for jumping events,'and One Whetu, Wotan and Le Grand for spring racing. Ned Cuttie may also be taken. At present Cynical Kid is still lame, having, knocked himself when racing at Ellerslie.
