WELLINGTON RUGBY

King's Birthday Match With Taranaki NO CHANGE OF POLICY • I here appear'’ to be sunn- nusippiehenf ion <ni the part of the ITi's.s eonecruing Wellington's policy with regard io the nrnleh with Taranaki at. llawera on the King's Birthday.” said the chairman, Mr. J. Prendeville, at the weekly meeting oi the manage mittce of the Wellington ' Rugby Union lasi: night. "Il: Ims been stated that, we took two senior teams away from the selector to play a club clmmpionsliip match in Wellington on that day. This is quite incorrect. The 11 ellington union, in the past, him always played a senior championship match at Athletic Park on the King’s Birthday. Taranaki was aware of this, and when Taranaki found difficulty in continuing its annual match with Wanganui on the King’s Birthday on account of the alteration in the date, they approached the Wellington union's delegates at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union with a request for a match with Wellington at llawera on June 23. Our delegates explained to them that two senior teams would be playing in Wellington that day, but the Taranaki demgates said that did not matter; they would be quite satisfied with the best team Wellington on the day could send to play Taranaki. It was not a case of the Wellington union changing its policy, but a case of agreeing to meet the wishes of the Taranaki union.” Mr. J. 'N. Millard supported the news of the chairman. He said that the position had' been fully explained to the Taranaki delegates when the fixtures were being arranged at the annual meeting of the N.Z.R.U. Kick Into Touch. The New Zealand Rugby Union asked the Wellington union to note that iu the event of a player outside his own twentyfive making a kick, and the ball pitching into touch on the full behind him, the advantage rule was to apply, and the lineout taken where the ball goes into touch. The Otago union wrote .stating that it had been in the habit in the past of replacing players injured during any period of the game, and it wished to obtain'the opinion of unions which would be sending teams to play Otago this season on the subject. It was decided to reply that the Wellington union was .in agreement on the question. Fort licoming Matches.

Mr. Prendeville drew attention to a report of. a recent meeting of the reserves committee of the City Council, at which it: had been stated tlinf the Ronoglai Reserve would be required for the erection of the Wellington exhibition buildings before long, and this would mean that several placing fields would be lost to Rugby. The reserves committee had expressed a desire to make an effort to obtain more playing fields, and he considered it was the duty of the Wellington Rugby Union to sunport the reserves committee in this connection. He moved that a letter be sent to the Wellington City Council supporting the reserves committee in its effort to secure more playing fields for pastimes. The motion was carried.
