AT THE COMBINED BANKS’ BALL

Being a typically wintry night. It was an occasion for seasonable frocks —quite a number of velvets and dark colours being noticed. Novel decorations were the silver frosted £ s. d. signs hung at intervals round the walls, with green and gold streamers in festoons between them. _ Streamers were also hung from the light shades, and the stage was backed with chrysanthemums and ferns. The supper rooms were bright with iceland poppies, and efficient waitresses served an appetising “sit down” supper. A corner of the ballroom was arranged with a carpet and lounge chairs for the hostesses, who on this occasion were: Mrs. R. C. Addison, who wore a gown of capri blue lace: Mrs. F. W. Dawson, wearing night iflue shot silk; Mrs. 11. R. Chalmers, in a frock of black crepe patterned with tiny pink flowers, and Miss Melicent Grose, who wore a black floral taffeta frock.
