TRAVEL CLUB MEETING
A large body of interested women attended a meeting of the ladies’ committee of the Wellington Travel Club, held in the Dominion Farmers' Institute on Monday afternoon. The following were present, many of whom were elected to the committee: —Miss Amy Kune (convener of the meeting), Mrs. Peter Fraser (vice-president), Mrs. Lance Mqore, Miss E. M. Black, Mrs. James Payne, Mrs. J. W. Fcrgie, Mrs. 11. B. Oakes. Mrs. L. N. Denby, Mrs. M. Henry. Mrs. T. M. Donovau, Mrs. F. A. Knight, Mrs. S. V. Fernandez, Mrs. G. T. Wilson, Mrs. G. G. Stewart, Mrs. Preston, Mrs. A. W. 0. Travers, Mrs. Max Wall, Miss D. L. Tanner, Mrs. C. Short, Miss Morgan (Auckland), Miss N. E. Donovan (bon. secretary).
Mr. G. G. Stewart (chairman of the executive) was present and explained briefly the objects of the club. Several ladies who bad attended gatherings held by the Auckland Travel Club, slated bow they had enjoyed tlie weekly morning teas when all visitors wore made to feel that they were in a friendly city among hospitable people. It. was hoped that many overseas travellers would be encouraged to stay for longer periods in Wellington now that Hie Travel Chib was established.
The committee brought forward" the idea that interested organisations should appoint representatives who woptd act on the committee. The Travel Club, by receiving advance information, could then act as a “clearing house” and so bring distinguished visitors into touch with these organisations. Though the club has only been lu existence three weeks, the membership is vety good aud steadily increasing.
