MANY PLAYERS

Benefit Bridge Party For

Free Ambulance

The Wellington Free Ambulance funds should benefit considerably from the very successful bridge party held, through Airs. B. Sutherland’s generosity, at “Homewood,” Karori, yesterday afternoon, when there were about GO tables of players. The afternoon was arranged by t.’.e Free Ambulance Bridge Circle, in conjunction with the Free Ambulance Ladles’ Auxiliary Committee, and the conveners were Alesdames B. Sutherland, R. W. Atkinson and M. A. Searle. Many of the players arrived early, at Mrs. Sutherland’s invitation, and spent, a delightful half-hour wandering lu the conservatories and begonia houses, which always have beautiful bloom.s to display. It was very pleasant to step from the wintry out-of-doors into the warm, spacious hall, and all the rooms in which bridge was played were made comfortable with open fires or glowing radiators. The drawing-room, ballroom, billiard-room, breakfasb-room, and an upstairs re-ception-room were filled with tables, and the dining-room was arranged for afternoon tea—the long refectory taole being set with delicious home-made cakes and savouries. Artistic decorations were provided by many-toued hydrangeas, Iceland poppies and white narcissi. Airs. Sutherland received in a frock of nigger brown french crepe, the sleeves and sash heavily embroidered with tiny bronze beads. Aliss Jean Sutherland, who assisted her, was in a linden green and gold pin-striped skirt and tailored blouse.
