London to Johannesburg
Air Race
London, June 7.
The Schlesinger prize for the air race from London to Johannesburg provides for £4OOO for the fastest speed, the remainder to be devoted to handicap prizes. The winner will receive £3OOO, and there will be £l5OO as a second prize, £lOOO as third and £4OO as fourth.
Mr. Schlesinger, a South African millionaire, has donated £lO,OOO as a prize for an air race from London to Johannesburg in connection with the Johannesburg Exhibition. The race will be confined to Empire pilots and aircraft. The organisation of the contest will be under the control of the Royal Aero Club. “I want to see the people of Soutfi Africa air-minded,” said Mr. Schlesinger. “South Africa, now one of the most prosperous members of the British Commonwealth. is unprotected and is open to any air attack.”
