Development Association For South Island
CONFERENCE TO BE HELD

The formation of an association to develop tourist traffic im the South Island and Stewart Island will be considered at a conference to be held in Christchurch in June or July, Invita■tions to attend the conference will be sent by the Lyttelton Harbour Board to harbour boards, city, borough and county councils, tourist and travel organisations, hotel and hostel interests, progress leagues, chambers of commerce, 'automobile associations and other organisations in the South Island interested in the development and welfare of the tourist trade.
It is proposed to call the organisation the South Island Travel Association of New Zealand, and it will be modelled on the Australian National Travel Association. The draft constitution proposed sets out 15 objects, the first of which is to provide machinery by which interested organisations may co-operate to develop and maintain the tourist traffic, as well as the scenic resorts and amenities of the South Island and Stewart Island.
it is proposed that the island should be divided into six tourist regions, each to have representation on a general committee, the regions being the provinces of Nelson, Westland, Southland (with Stewart Island), Otago, Canterbury and Marlborough.
