Stolen from outside the Palmerston North Police Station last Wednesday evening, a motor-car owned by Mr. A. Clark. Palmerston North, was recovered uudaimiged on the main road near I’araparaumu on Thursday. A taxi-driver travelling from Wellington to Napier, learning that the vehicle was missing, kept, a look-out and was rewarded when he found the car. with its petrol supply exhausted, and a 15-year-old boy nsleep on the back sent. stopped by the wayside. The boy was taken to tlie police station. New County Council Offices.

Before a ’large attendance, Mr. J. Robertson, M.P. for Musterton, officially opened the Akitio County Council s new offices at Pongoroa yesterday afternoon. The chairman of the council. Cr. 11. I>. Robertson, presided. There was an attendance of about 400. Mr. Robertson congratulated the council on its progress and also on the splendid work it had done and was still doing in the interests of the district. Mr. P. R. Kent said lie wished to show the ratepayers’ appreciation of Cr. Robertson's splendid service on the council. He had been a councillor for 20 years, and for 22 years bad been chairman, bis election this year making his twenty-third. As a mark of appreciation from the settlers, lie presented Cr. and Mrs. Robertson with a silver service and salver.

Tennis Clubs Trophies. The ilakuri (Pahiatua) Tennis Clubs singles competitions have now been completed. Miss J. Rutherford defeated Miss V. Rutherford in the final of the women's championship singles, and 11. Absolom beat C. B. Tylee in the men's singles. At the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Club's annual ball Inst night the president, Mr. L. Gardner, presented the following trophies won during last season: —Manawatu Lawn Tennis Club: Men’s singles championship, D. B. Livingstone; women's singles champion. Mrs. A. Waldin; vicar s cup. Mies L. Boag; men's championship doubles. Messrs. Livingstone and Robertson ; women's championship doubles, Mrs. Beattie and Miss Anile: mixed championship doubles. R. Hill and Mrs. Lennon. Mangwatu Lawn Tennis Association: Men’s championship singles. Dr. K. S. Salmond: women's championship singles, Mrs. A. Waldin.

Rifle Shooting. Further success was achieved liy the Feilding Miniature Rifle Club's A and B teams last night, when they defeated teams from the Awahtiri club by a margin of 27 points in each case. The match was fired in tlie Feilding Drill Hall. .In the A grade Feilding scored 1077 points to the visitors’ 1050. the highest scorers for the former team being 11. Stuart 140 (a possible) and J. Craig 138. Ihe v*sitors' best marksmen were W. Odgers 138 and J. Print 135. In Hie B grade, Feilding scored 779 points to Awahuri's 75'-, the leading marksmen for the winners being J. Frazer 132 and I. Aitken and N. Bramwell 131 points each. (For the visitors. K. Matthews scored 134 points mid C. Hancock 130.

Player Ordered Off. R MeKenzie, Manawatu All Black, was ordered off the field in the Rugby game between Kia Ton ami United, for allegedly striking another player.

Bankruptcy Returns. i , . There was only one bankruptcy recorded in Palmerston North during May. In the sartie month last year no petitions were filed.

Billiards. . The annual billiard and snooker championships, conducted by the Palmerston North branch of the R.S.A. for the Hannay and Tucker Cups, have now been completed. H Drinkwnter put up a very fine average performance to win in both sections. Ihe results of the individual competitions were as follow :—Billiards (Hannay Cup): IL Drinkwater, 20 points, 1; E. Footballers Injured. Two players werp injured in the Rugby match between Kia Toa and United seniors. Jarvis, Kia Toa first five-eighth, received concussion and facial cuts. Cuipan. United winger, also received concussion. Both were attended to by Dr. C. King.

Jubilee Procession Awards. The following awards were made at the Apiti jubilee yesterday, for the competitions conducted in connection with the jubilee procession:—Most humorous: Misses M. McKay. T.
