Claims For Dominion Awards Claims for a Dominion award, embodying a five-day, 40-hour week, have been drafted by the softgoods section of the Warehousemen Employees’ Unions, which have a membership of between 3000 and 4000. A general warehousemen’s award on similar lines, covering storemen and packers, is also being drafted. It will apply to approximately 7000 employees. Five classifications, covering juniors, seniors, first assistants and travellers, are asked for in the claims of softgoods workers. Rates of wages for warehousemen are set out as follow: — Fifteen vears and under sixteen, £1 5/- a week; 16 to 17. £l/15/-; 17 to 18, £2/5/-: IS to 19, £2/15/-; 19 to 20. £3 10/-; 20 to 21. £4/5/-; over 21, £5/10/-; first assistant travellers, £6/10/-. Provision is also made for the admission of older youths to the trade, the rates being; Eighteen to 19 years, £2 2/6; 19 to 20, £2/15/-: 20 to 21, £4 5/-; thereafter full adult rate.' Wages for female workers are set out at the same rate as for youths up to £2/10/- a week, and after that at the rate of two-thirds of the rate for male employees. Provision is made in the claims for limiting the percentage of female workers, for casual workers, overtime, and holidays.
