KING’S SECOND LEVEE
State Drive in London (Received May 27, 5.5 p.m.) London, May 26. Wearing a field-marshal’s uniform King Edward made his first State drive In the Royal Coach, with a Sovereign’s escort, from Buckingham Palace along the Mall which was lined with cheer ing crowds, to St. James’s Palace, where he held the second levee of his reign. The levee took place in the great Throne Room, and several bun dred presentations were made. BATON PRESENTED King a Field-Marshal (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, May 26. Seven British field-marshals, headed by the Duke of Connaught, attended a ceremony in the State apartments at Buckingham Palace this afternoon at which the King accepted his field marshal's baton. His Majesty previously appeared fo: the first time in a field-marshal’s uni form when he drove in state to StJames’s Palace this morning to attend the second levee of his reign,
The baton, which the King accepted from Ibe Duke of Connaught, senior field-marshal, bore an inscription which at his Majesty’s wish is briefer and simpler than the form usual in, rhe past. The inscription reads: "His Majesty, King Edward VIII, FieldMarshal, January 21,1936."
