Bodart, the French Minister, after ordering the Legation band to play the Fascist hymn and the "Marseillaise,” made a speech expressing sympathy with the King ' Italy, Mussolini, and the Italian army. He said they had brought order and civilisation and would bring prosperity to the peoples of Abyssinia. The Italian guests, including Signor Bottai, received an ovation. Rome is already claiming that JI. Bodart thus virtually recognised annexation, but this is strongly denied tn French official circles. HAILE SELASSIE Sails For England On British Cruiser (Received May 2-1, 7 p.m.) Haifa, May 23. Haile Selassie left for England on the cruiser Capetown this afternoon. Before his departure from Jerusalem, Haile Selassie, the Empress, and family visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and climbed Mount Calvary and prayed for the success of his mission. Haile Selassie left for England accompanied by the Crown Prince and the Princess Taahai and Ras Kassa. The Capetown will carry the party to Gibraltar, where they will tranship to the liner Corfu. They will stay at Selassie’s London house in Princes Gate, near Hyde Park. VICAR APOSTOLIC TO REMAIN AT HARAR Rome, May 22. The Foreign Under-Secretary (Signor Suvich) has informed France that j Jarrousseau, Vicar Apostolic at Harar, ■will be permitted to remain there. General Graziani ordered the deportation of Jarrousseau, who remained at his altar during the bombardment of Harrar, but Jarrousseau declined to be moved except, at the point of the bayonet.
