Purchased by Karamea Shipping Company WILL REPLACE FAIRBURN To replace the wrecked Fairburn, the Karamea Shipping Company has pur chased Ihe auxiliary scow Te Aroint, which will take up her new running about the end of June. 'The service nmintained by the Fairburn from Wellington to Karamea and Westport, until she was wrecked at Westport early in March, was the ottl.V means the farmers and timber people in the Karamea district bad of shipping their products. The company was formed by the people of the district whose goods she brought to Welling ton, and so the loss of the little vessel was a serious blow to the district. Ko cenfly the Te Arolia lias been working Karamea, and the company has decided to purchase her to keep her regularly in this trade —lo them a vital one.
The To Arolia will (eave Wellington on Monday for I’icton, where she will l>e laid up for about six weeks for an extensive overhaul and relit, which will include the installing of new diesel engines, which the Karamea Shipping Company bad bought to install in tne Fairburn some months before that vessel was wrecked.
A vessel of 105 tons gross, the Te Arolia was built at Auckland in 19i)9 and was originally owned by Richardson and Co., Ltd., Napier, who sold her some years ago to the Anchor Shipping and Foundry Co., Ltd., Nelson, to trade from Nelson to Tasman and Goldcu Bay. In July, 1933, Southern Traders Ltd. was formed in Wellington to trade between this port and Hokitika, and the Te Arolia, which bad been laid np at Nelson for some time, was purchased by this company, who have now sold her to the Karamea Shipping Company.
