KING’S THEATRE

“Metropolitan” and “Every Saturday Night” Motion pictures have been responsible for bringing in person many of the most famous international artists of the day, but never lias an artist been more welcome to us than the famous American baritone, Lawrence Tibbett, who appears iu "Metropolitan,” showing at the King's Theatre this week. Tibbeit's voice has beeu admired by countless thousands over the radio or on recordings, but tlie Lawrence Tibbett who appears on the screen is a vastly superior person. ".Metropolitan” provides a story eminently suitable for the successful displaying of a fine voice such as Tibbctt’s. Besides providing many chances for singing, it gives many openings for the placing of skilled humour aud even a little romance. He sings four selections from famous operas, and iu addition he sings that thrilling song which really made him famous, "De Glory Road.” Virginia Bruce, iu the feminine lead, is a fitting partner for the famous singer. In "Every Saturday Night,” which is the supporting picture on this programme. an entirely new type of picture is presented to the public. It shows the struggles of a typical American father, though we have many like him in New Zealand, who attempts to bring his family up on tlie same lines as liis father raised his. Hilarious comedy, it Ims au unusual and strangely moving finale.
